October - December • 153 anime
Fall 2024 leaned into big-name sequels and bold originals, and a handful of shows really stuck in people's heads. Uzumaki and BLUE LOCK Season 2 were the ones most folks kept talking about across the 153-title slate.
My take: the season was defined more by bold creative choices than by sheer quantity. Uzumaki turned Junji Ito's spirals into genuinely unsettling animation and sound work that made the horror land beyond just pretty shots. BLUE LOCK Season 2 doubled down on tense match choreography and clearer character stakes, which made the football scenes feel urgent. Re:ZERO Season 3 dug deeper into Subaru's trauma — it sometimes lingered, but the emotional payoffs were powerful when they landed. Ranma1/2 (2024) surprised a lot of old fans by modernizing the look while keeping the quirks that mattered.
There were roughly forty sequels among more than a hundred originals, so Fall jumped between comfortable franchises and riskier bets. Arcane Season 2 and Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom brought a more cinematic scale to their corners, and the season's music-heavy entries made soundtracks a real talking point. Overall, it felt like a quarter where a few smart creative risks actually paid off.
